Nutribullet is among the new generation compact blenders that have cups or jugs serving as receptacles. This makes it easy to consume smoothies on the go. The design of this magic bullet blender aims at getting the most from your food. It blitzes fruits, seeds, and vegetables to release great nutrition, not liberated by chewing. Unlike other blenders, the Nutribullet comes with a detailed user guide and recipe book. This helps in answering a common question among blending enthusiasts; is the Nutribullet dishwasher safe?
After making a delicious smoothie, it is prudent to ensure that you clean the blender in preparation for the next blending. Since not everyone is accustomed to cleaning, it is important to find alternatives for cleaning, which is primarily the use of a dishwasher.
How to Clean the Nutribullet Blender
Despite the Nutribullet being an easy blender to clean, owing to its design, there are several methods to approach its cleaning. Probably among the reasons why many prefer this blender is that it doesn’t require a lot of washing, and you can drink your smoothies straight from the same blending container. However, it would be perfect if the entire blender could be cleaned in the dishwasher.
Fortunately, several parts of the Nutribullet are dishwasher safe. The cups, lip rings, and lids can be placed at the top rack of a dishwasher without worries. These parts are made from BPA-free plastics and can be washed without issues. From the instructions manual, some soap and less effort are required to remove any food and leftover material from the blender. However, thoroughly cleaning the cup, power base, and blades ensure that you will be blending food from clean equipment.
Cleaning the Cup and Blades
Before cleaning or assembling the Nutribullet blender, always unplug from the power source. It is important to note that the blades, unlike the cups, are not dishwasher safe. From the user manual, the blades can be washed in warm soapy water.
Follow the following steps to clean the cup and blades.
- Disassemble – if the blade is still attached to the cup, unscrew the blade from the cup portion before washing it.
- Wash the cup by hand or place it at the top rack of a dishwasher. It is always safe to wash various parts of a blender by hand. Run warm water over the parts and use dish soap and sponge to wash the interior and exterior thoroughly. However, since the cups are dishwasher safe, placing them at the top rack of the dishwasher running in a normal wash cycle is a better alternative. Avoid using the sanitize cycle or submerging portions of the Nutribullet into boiling water.
- Wash the blade with soap and water. The blade parts should be washed by hand with soap and water at all times. Apply two drops of dish soap and use a sponge to clean under the blades and clear any built-up food. Always keep the fingers away from the sharp edges of the blade to prevent accidental cuts. The blade cannot be cleaned in a dishwasher as high heat can melt the plastic parts.
- Drying – the exterior and interior parts of the cup and the blade should be dried using a dry rag. Place them on the drying rack afterward to air dry before reusing them.
Note: The blades and cups should be washed after every use.

Cleaning the Power Base
In most machines, the power base doesn’t get dirty easily. However, with the Nutribullet’s design that requires the blender cup to be turned upside-down, inevitable situations may lead to spills. For instance, overfilling the blender may lead to leaking of the contents over the power base container.
The following steps came in handy when cleaning my power base;
- As usual, unplugging the Nutribullet from the power supply is the first and most crucial step. It is vital to ensure that there is no electricity running through the equipment. Turning it off can still cause electrocution once it gets wet.
- Cleaning by hand – damp a rag by dipping under warm water and wringing thoroughly. Clean the surface of the power base and the interior carefully. Remove any stuck food or other materials at the base of the blender. A citrus cleaner can also speed up cleaning the power base. Just to mention, citrus cleaners take advantage of the natural oils to remove stains and deep food buildup. They also deodorize the power base.
Note: Never submerge the power base completely into water or clean it with a dishwasher. Before reconnecting the power base to electricity, it should be adequately dried, either with a dry cloth rag or in the air. The power base should be washed once weekly or following food spills.

Alternative Method of Cleaning: Blending Soap and Water
Stubborn cleaning comes in handy when ingredients dry inside the Nutribullet. In such situations, it is recommended to blend soap and water, which is an effective method of cleaning the cup and blades. The cleaning procedure is as follows;
- Fill the blender cup with water and soap to 2/3rds. Coarsely chopped lemon can also be included.
- Connect the milling blade to the cup – screw the milling blade counterclockwise to the bottom of the cup until it is tightly connected.
- Connect the cup to the power base – with soap, water, and milling blade connected, place the cup on the power base and press down lightly until the exterior blade starts rotating. Blend the soap, water, and lemon mixture for up to 30 seconds.
- Empty the contents and rinse the cup in a faucet.
- Dry the cup and blades using a rag and allow them to air dry before using them again.
Is the NurtiBullet Dishwasher Safe – Bottom Line
With all these said, is the Nutribullet dishwasher safe? Well, as outlined above, the cup, lip rings, and lids are dishwasher safe. Other parts, including the blades and power base, are not dishwasher safe. In general, I would say the Nutribullet blender is a smart purchase and best suited for those who struggle to eat enough fruits and vegetables or are looking to incorporate more fruits in their diet. Apart from the intriguing design, the blender is easy to use, compact, and easy to clean.
