Strawberry Lilac Crostinis

This sweet and savory appetizer combines strawberries in lilac syrup with ricotta cheese on crisp, golden crostinis.

Ingredients
  

  • cups strawberries, sliced
  • ¼ cup lilac syrup (see Notes)
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 12 toasted baguette slices
  • balsamic vinegar
  • flakey sea salt
  • freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Begin by making the crostinis. Preheat to 350 degrees F. Slice a thick baguette into at least twelve 1/2 inch slices.
  • Brush both sides of the baguette slices with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Bake the baguette slices for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • While the baguette slices are baking, combine the strawberry slices and lilac syrup in a mixing bowl.
  • Once the crostinis are done and have cooled for a few minutes, spread each one with a layer of ricotta cheese, then top with lilac syrup-coated strawberries.
  • Drizzle each crostini with balsamic vinegar, then season with salt and pepper. Garnish with fresh lilac flowers and strawberry blossoms (optional).
