Green smoothies are undeniably the best way to help you with weight loss. Today we’re going to talk about how to make a green smoothie with protein powder for weight loss. While certain fruits, vegetables, and nuts can provide you with ideal boosts in protein, protein powder is actually a great alternative.
These green smoothies can be enjoyed at breakfast, you can use them as a full meal replacement or as a mid-day snack, or even as a post-workout meal. If you enjoy fruit smoothies but often feel hungry afterward, and if you find ordinary green smoothies to be lacking a bit in the protein department, protein powder is a great way to boost your smoothies!
By adding a little protein powder into your ordinary green smoothie, you will get an additional 15 to 30 grams of protein. This transforms your ordinary green smoothie into a well-balanced meal that will actually fill your stomach. And since we are still focusing on green smoothies, these will be excellent for when you want to lose weight.
The Best Protein Powders for Green Smoothies
You have a lot of options when it comes to which protein powder to use. I generally recommend that people look for brands that are minimally processed, that have very little added sugar, and absolutely no artificial sweeteners. Of course, you get to use your discretion. This is just a recommendation.
Now let’s go through the four best proteins for losing weight and keeping your energy up, all of which work great inside green smoothies.
Pea Protein: Pea protein is made by isolating protein from ground yellow peas. This protein comes included with all of the best amino acids while being low in methionine. But you can make up for the lacking methionine by eating eggs, poultry, beef, brown rice, and other meaty ingredients.
But even if you’re a vegan, pea protein is still super good for you. It is rich in iron, and it’s great in a smoothie that has citrus. If you find a pea protein that has been mixed with citrus powder, this is even better; it tastes good and offers maximum benefits. Not only can pea protein help you lose weight, but it has been shown to help with building muscle mass. It will also make you feel full.
Whey Protein: Whey protein is some of the best for helping you to lose body fat, to gain muscle, and to dramatically increase your overall strength. Whey protein itself is isolated from something called whey, which is found inside natural milk. Whey separates from milk during the process of making cheese.
Typically, whey comes flavored and is added to smoothies to be a nutritional boost that tastes good. Whey is also great because it digests relatively quickly.
Egg Protein: Egg protein Is very obviously made from eggs. Less obvious is that egg proteins come from egg whites and not from egg yolks. While not quite as great as whey protein, eggs are still good at increasing your muscle strength. Egg protein in a powder form is also generally very high in quality. It also digests well.
Casein Protein: This is another milk protein very similar to whey. Many people believe it increases body composition in those who are working with resistance training. It gets digested and absorbed much slower than whey protein does. However, it gives your muscles more exposure to amino acids.
Nuts & Seeds: While not generally found in protein powders, there are a few healthy and natural proteins that you can add into your green smoothie for a big protein boost. I highly recommend adding a small scoop of chia seeds, flaxseeds, egg white, nut butter – or a half cup of spinach!

The smoothie tastes great, it takes just five minutes to make, and you can enjoy one every morning as a way to moderate weight loss and continue a healthy lifestyle.
This smoothie is also totally vegan and free of dairy. You can use whatever protein powder you want, though I do recommend sticking with a vegan powder to remain healthy.
