This sparkling fruit punch is all-natural, easy to make, and great for parties. Fassionola is an old fashioned bar syrup made from a blend of fruits including passion fruit, bringing the flavor of the tropics to cocktails, mocktails, and this easy fruity soda.
Tropical fassionola syrup
This bright red mixer was traditionally used in tiki-style cocktails in the 1930s-60s, but its fun, tropical flavor works in a variety of drinks including iced teas and lemonade.
Fassionola is both sweet and sour thanks to passion fruit pulp, which gives the syrup its primary flavor.
Strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, and hibiscus (optional) add dimension and give it a characteristic tropical fruit punch flavor.
Because the syrup has a natural sourness, it makes a great drink just mixed with still or sparkling water. The tartness of the passion fruit and the acidity of the pineapple balance out the overall sweetness perfectly.
A natural, less sugary alternative to classic fruit punches
Unlike the classic fruity drinks from my childhood (Kool-Aid, Hawaiian Punch, generic sugary fruit punches), this fassionola soda is fairly light, refreshing, and very customizable.
Easy to customize
Want a less sweet soda? Just use less syrup and more sparkling water.
Want to make it organic? Simply use organic fruits and sugar when preparing the syrup.
Want to add even more fruit flavors? You can easily add mango, guava, or other tropical fruits to the syrup. Start with 1/4 cup of each additional ingredient and add more if desired.
All of the ingredients in the syrup are pretty easy to find, even if you’re still not leaving the house very often or are relying on grocery delivery. I was able to get everything I needed delivered from Whole Foods via Amazon Prime.
The best part of the syrup recipe is that it’s adaptable. Use frozen fruit, substitute one berry for another – make it your own with what you have on hand. Get the full Fassionola Syrup recipe.
This Fassionola Soda is a crowd-pleasing summer drink that everyone will enjoy. The sweet tropical flavors and bubbles are kid-friendly, but it’s well-balanced enough to make a great mocktail for adults.
With this one syrup, you can make classic tiki drinks like the Cobra’s Fang or even a fruity fassionola Daiquiri, or simply add sparkling water to turn it into the perfect afternoon cooler.
Fassionola Soda ingredients:
- Fassionola syrup
- Sparkling water
- Small pinch of salt (optional)
- Lime wedge (optional)
How to make the drink
Add a small pinch of salt to a highball glass and fill it with ice. Pour one ounce of fassionola syrup into the glass. then top with sparkling water.
Stir gently to combine, and garnish with a lime wedge, if you wish.
Edible flowers like tropical orchids are also optional but so festive! I get mine from Gourmet Sweet Botanicals.

Why add salt
A tiny pinch of salt will enhance both the sweet and the sour flavors of the syrup, making the whole drink taste brighter and (for lack of a better descriptor) more flavorful.
Just like how we add a little salt to enhance sweet flavors when baking, a pinch of salt makes drinks taste that much better too. This is why a salted rim makes a sweet and sour Margaritas really shine!
